Meet the Amazing Runners Taking Part in the ALTRA Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday, March 1, 2026

John Jones, 46, Peter Osborne, 46, Dominic Hughes, 45, Tom Ratcliffe, 46, Craig McKay, 44, Chris Worrall, 45 and Phil Weston, 44 are a group of doctors from across the country who are attempting the Guinness World Record for the fastest male dressed as a mammal!

John said: “We’ve been running the Brighton Half Marathon in cow costumes since 2018. Why cows? I’m not entirely sure, it seemed like a good idea at the time! We’ve all done half marathons, marathons, triathlons and long-distance bike rides over the years for a variety of charities, but have found the atmosphere at the Brighton Half to be the best. The support along the route is fantastic, hence it being our main annual event.”

“Our first Brighton Half was in 2010 and most of us have run it every year since. We’ve applied to the Guinness Book of World Records on a number of occasions and this year the attempt has been approved. We are going for the fastest male dressed as a mammal, apparently there isn’t a record for a ‘herd’ so we will all need to cross the starting and finish line together, arm in arm, so that we all go in the record book! The current record is 1 hour 46 minutes and 1 second, set on the 30th of November 2025 by someone dressed as a rhino. Interestingly the fastest female dressed as a mammal was set by someone dressed as a cow and is a rapid 1 hour 32 minutes and 24 seconds. I’m glad we are targeting the male record 😆. We hope to bring some fun to the run and look forward to the support!
