Coach Ben’s Half Marathon Top Tips

Head Coach Ben has put together his Half Marathon top tips to get you to the start line, ready to tackle Brighton’s scenic course and achieve your next PB.

Speed Work ⚡To run faster, you need to train faster! Incorporate interval and tempo sessions into your weekly schedule to build speed endurance and prepare for flat and fast stretches.

Long Runs 🏃 Aim to reach 75-80% of the half marathon distance. Brighton’s course is relatively flat, making it ideal for maintaining a steady pace, so simulate this in your long runs to build endurance and confidence.

Easy Runs 🏃 Don’t skip easy runs—they aid recovery and prevent injury. Stick to the 80% easy, 20% high-intensity rule to stay consistent without overtraining.

Cross Training 🏋 Add variety and reduce injury risk with cross-training. Activities like cycling or swimming can keep you motivated while strengthening different muscle groups.

Recovery 🧘 Recovery is essential for peak performance. Get 8 hours of sleep, incorporate stretching and foam rolling, and listen to your body to adjust your training as needed.

Nutrition 🍌 Fuel your body with plenty of carbs and high-quality protein, especially before long runs and intense sessions. Brighton’s March weather can also be cool, so ensure you’re staying hydrated and ready for race day.
